Indian Super League (ISL) side Mohammedan Sporting Club will look to bow out of the Durand Cup with pride as they take on the Border Security Force Football Team in their final Group B fixture at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Thursday.

The Kolkata side are already out of contention for the knockout stages, having suffered defeats to Mohun Bagan Super Giant and Diamond Harbour FC. Both those sides have won their opening two matches having secured six points each.

Their opponents BSF Football Team find themselves in a similar position, also having lost both games to MBSG and Diamond Harbour FC. Thursday’s clash then becomes a battle to end the campaign on a high note.

It’s been a tough outing for Mohammedan SC, a youthful side that has shown promise in patches but lacked the experience to see out results. In their opening match against Diamond Harbour FC, they went ahead but eventually fell to a 2-1 defeat after conceding twice in the second half.

In the much-anticipated Kolkata Derby, Mohammedan SC held their own against a strong MBSG side and managed to equalise but were eventually overpowered in a 3-1 loss.

Despite the setbacks, there have been encouraging signs for the Kolkata-based outfit. They will now look to cap off their campaign with a positive result and give their home fans something to cheer about.
