Indian Super League (ISL) club Mohammedan SC succumbed to a 1-2 defeat against West Bengal rivals Diamond Harbour FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan on Monday.

The Black and White Brigade went through a challenging start as debutants, Diamond Harbour FC, looked sharp with their movements early in the match. However, the hosts scored the opener against the run of play in the 36th minute thanks to Adison’s goal.

Adison got another crucial opportunity to double the lead in the dying minutes of the opening half but could not frame his attempt on target as the ISL side went onto the half-time break with a slender 1-0 lead.

Going into the second half, Diamond Harbour FC created a couple of opportunities and managed to level the scoreline within the opening six minutes. Ruatkima brought the I-League side back into the game with his bullet header from a corner kick.

Both sides continued to have their chances in the rest of the second half, but a lack of precision in the final third prevented them from finding the back of the net. In the dying minutes of the second half extra time, it was former Punjab FC striker Luka Majcen who scored the winner with a rebound shot and snatched all three points from Mohammedan SC.

The Black and White Brigade will look to regroup as they will face Mohun Bagan Super Giant in a Kolkata derby on July 31.
