MBSG continued to dominate the ball possession through Colaco, Kiyan Nassiri and others exploiting the opponent's defensive lapses.
The Mariners broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute thanks to Colaco's brilliant free-kick goal. Mohammedan SC found it hard to get a foothold in the match as Bastob Roy's men maintained their supremacy in the game.
However, MBSG were down to 10 men as Apuia received a direct red card in the dying minutes of the first half.
The Black and White Brigade created a couple of chances early in the second half. Their attempts ultimately paid off as they equalized the scoreline in the 50th minute courtesy of Ashley's goal.
Despite having a numerical disadvantage, Suhail Bhat regained the lead for the Mariners. Colaco's brilliant run and a superb back heel pass found Bhat inside the box, and the forward made no mistake in finding the back of the net.
Mohammedan SC continued to create a few changes in the final stages of the game, but a resilient MBSG defense line led by Vishal Kaith prevented them from scoring the equaliser.
The Mariners doubled their lead in the 95th minute, and this time it was Colaco again who scored a brace from the spot.
With that win, MBSG kick-started their Durand Cup campaign with a solid victory and will next face BSF FT on August 4.
