Ahead of Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2020-21, Chennaiyin FC confirmed the addition of Memo Moura. Having already played in the last four Hero ISL seasons, the versatile Brazilian midfielder is confident about enjoying success with his new club, especially since he has already adapted to the league’s competitiveness.

“It will be my fifth season in India and in the Hero ISL. I am very well-adapted, and I believe it will help me and the team a lot. It is very good for you to know a league as competitive as the Hero ISL, how it all works, all the conditions. And personally, I am very hopeful this season will be better than my previous ones in India,” shared the 32-year-old in an interview with Chennaiyin FC’s official website.

Memo will link up with compatriots Eli Sabia and Rafael Crivellaro having spoken to the pair before signing on the dotted line for the two-time champions. “I have talked to Eli (Sabia), he was very happy to know that I am joining Chennaiyin. He has helped me a lot to understand about the club and everyone there. He told me a lot about the passionate and involved supporters we have.”

“I have spoken a lot to him and Rafael (Crivellaro) last season when we played against each other. Now I’m really looking forward to meeting them and the rest of the team, hopefully very soon,” Memo added.

Incidentally, Memo made his Hero ISL debut against the Marina Machans back in 2016 and the Brazilian recalled how he was in awe at the passion of the Chennaiyin fans back then. “It is quite amazing that I made my Hero ISL debut against Chennaiyin. I remember vividly seeing the fans screaming, so many vibrant characters cheering their team so passionately. I got to see them a few more times when I played at Jamshedpur. And look at me today – I am very, very happy to be part of the blue of Chennaiyin,” he continued.

“The fans can expect a lot of determination and the will to win from me. Every time I go on the field, I start thinking about my family in Brazil and my blue Chennaiyin family. I always try to give my maximum to see the fans happy and to give them a victory to take home. To the fans I have a simple message – I will play for you with everything I have,” the former Jamshedpur FC star said while assuring the supporters of his new club.

Chennaiyin have a plethora of young talents in their squad, and Memo pointed out the prowess of Lallianzuala Chhangte, having played with the winger at Delhi Dynamos FC. “Chennaiyin FC has always had some unbelievably good players over the years. Someone that really caught my eye last season was (Lallianzuala) Chhangte. I had already seen him play in Delhi, and he is just amazing, with a great attitude. He is a true Indian talent,” Memo concluded.
