AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers: India suffers a narrow defeat against Bangladesh
India fall narrowly to Bangladesh in their AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers in Dhaka.
India started the game with purpose, pressing high and dictating possession in the early stages. However, Bangladesh capitalized on a rare defensive lapse and took the lead in the 11th minute, converting their first clear chance of the match.
The Blue Tigers responded positively, with Lallianzuala Chhangte coming closest to equalizing in the 31st minute. His long-range right-footed effort almost found the back of the net after Bangladesh goalkeeper Mitul Marma was caught off his line, but the shot was headed away by Hamza Choudhury at the last moment.
After the break, India looked sharper and more composed in attack. The substitutions paid dividends as debutant Mohammed Sanan and midfielder Brison Fernandes injected fresh energy. Sanan, in particular, impressed with his direct runs and ability to stretch the defence, constantly testing the opposition backline.
Despite sustained pressure and multiple forward movements through the flanks, Bangladesh’s defence held firm, blocking India’s late attempts to equalize. The Blue Tigers pressed until the final whistle, even during six minutes of added time, but could not find the finishing touch.
The Blue Tigers will aim to end the campaign on a high note as they face Hong Kong in their final group-stage encounter.
