Zico: We have our feet on the ground

FC Goa coach Zico insists there is no complacency in his team team following their 7-0 win against Mumbai City FC in their last match of the 2015 Hero Indian Super League. The Gaurs, who are currently at the top of the table, play defending champions Atlético de Kolkata at the Salt Lake Stadium on Sunday, and ahead of the match Zico, speaking to the media, dismissed suggestions of complacency.
“For us, we always play to win. There's no guarantee in football even if we score seven in a game. There is no complacency. We have our feet on the ground and we are serious contenders,” the Brazilian told reporters on Saturday.
Zico wasn’t bothered about the fact that the Gaurs hadn’t ever beaten ATK in their five previous meetings. “There is no revenge or rivalry. I have come here to do my job. I don’t want to be better than anyone or to be bad. Hopefully, I can do good things in the FC Goa team,” he said.
Zico also assessed their opponents’ style of play this season. “They are playing offensive. The way the team is approaching games, it is different. They are not very close and [are mostly] going forward,” he said.
Against Mumbai, Dudu Omagbemi and Thongkhosiem Haokip scored hat-tricks for the Gaurs and Zico was all praise for the former. “He is a good player. I have known him since his FC Pune City stint last year. I was surprised that no one picked him ahead of the second season. We are happy with the opportunity to get him in our side now,” Zico said of the Nigerian striker who joined the Gaurs as a replacement for the injured Darryl Duffy a couple of weeks ago.
