Bengaluru FC head coach Gerard Zaragoza shared his displeasure after sharing points with Hyderabad FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) at the GMC Balayogi Stadium in Hyderabad in Saturday’s opener.

Devendra Murgaonkar’s free header provided a crucial lead for the hosts in the opening half. However, the Blues leveled the scores in the 78th minute thanks to Sunil Chhetri’s precise-headed goal that helped the visitors rescue another crucial point on the road.

With that, the veteran forward scored his 10th goal of the ongoing ISL season, becoming just the second Indian player to score 10+ goals in two different seasons after Lallianzuala Chhangte.

Throughout the game, both teams created numerous chances, but a lack of precision in the final third prevented them from finding the back of the net. Despite Gurpreet Singh Sandhu's failing to keep a clean sheet for the 11th straight outing, the Bengaluru FC goalkeeper made a couple of crucial saves to deny Joseph Sunny and Ramhlunchhunga’s efforts.

Zaragoza seemed dissatisfied with their players' overall performance with the Blues created several clear-cut chances.

“The level was horrible. My players, in the first half, were not inside the pitch. Yes, we had the ball; we moved them, but they arrived one time, and they scored one goal. Something that, I think, luck is not on our side also because we had clear, clear chances to score, and we did not score,” Zaragoza said in the post-match press conference.

“In the second half, with the changes, we changed a little bit, and we were more vertical, but finally one draw was amazing for them and not good for us,” he continued.

Zaragoza was further unhappy with the way his side conceded the opener with Murgaokar receiving a free header in the box. In the reverse fixture at home back in September, Bengaluru FC beat Hyderabad FC 3-0 but struggled to replicate the performance and result in Hyderabad.

“I don't know; I need to analyze this game, but it could be, yes (on whether there is a lack of concentration when Bengaluru FC concede goals).

The Blues are winless in their last three matches, dealing a strong blow to the League Shield hopes. Bengaluru FC will return to the Sree Kanteerava Stadium for their next game, where they will take on Odisha FC on January 22.

Zaragoza urged his players to rectify their mistakes from recent games and be mentally strong to get back to winning ways.

“As I say, we need to be ready and recover because we have a game in four days, and (we should) recover mentally, and let's go. It's like this,” he opined.

“Football and life are like this. We fall down and we stand up again,” Zaragoza concluded.
