East Bengal FC head coach Carles Cuadrat believes that the team can be a lot more competitive in the Indian Super League (ISL) in the 2023-24 season as compared to the last few seasons where the Red and Gold brigade have failed to reach the knockout stage of the competition.

The Kolkata giants have revamped the squad ahead of the new season bringing in the likes of Javier Siverio, Saul Crespo, Borja Herrera, Nadhakumar Sekar, Mandar Rao Desai, Prabhsukhan Singh Gill and Nishu Kumar.

The Spaniard believes that if the team can give their best together, East Bengal FC can reach great heights.

“I want to urge all the other players of the team to rise to the challenge and give their best shot. If we can do that then we are going to be very, very difficult to beat,” Cuadrat said at the club’s Foundation Day ceremony in Kolkata on Tuesday.

“I want to use the example of Cleiton Silva. I brought him to BFC from Thailand in 2020. Now after three years in ISL, he was the best player last season,” he added.

The Spaniard also acknowledged the fans of the club who always make their presence felt at every East Bengal FC match.

“The club has a lot of supporters. I can feel their spirit and vibe,” Cuadrat said.

The fans keep the players going and are an extra motivation for the players to do well. Naorem Mahesh who was one of the leading young players at the club last season, expressed gratitude towards the fans for their support.

“Though we didn’t get the results last season, the fans supported us. We need to work harder to get the desired results,” Mahesh said.
