East Bengal FC head coach Carles Cuadrat was delighted with his team’s efforts in the last few weeks as they put that hard work to practice in a 5-0 win over NorthEast United FC in Kolkata on Monday.

It was the Red and Gold brigade’s biggest win in ISL and was achieved thanks to a brace each from Cleiton Silva and Nandhakumar Sekar and a goal from Borja Herrera.

Cuadrat was happy to see his team enjoy some luck as they ran out emphatic winners, a result he feels should give his players much-needed confidence.

“We changed our luck with a lot of work,” the Spaniard said after the game.

“We kept going, we kept trying and it was a game where we scored the chances that we had. The opponent team was attacking so we had more space. The opposition team even missed a penalty and we got a clean sheet. We were a little bit fortunate, but it's football,” he added.

“Sometimes the luck doesn't help and today everything worked for us. All the goals were nice. So, the work we did in the training ground paid off and I'm happy that the players got confidence,” he continued.

The Spaniard felt his team took advantage of the advantages they enjoyed during the game which resulted in such a big result in his team’s favour.

“Borja is a creative player. We have to take advantage of the players that we have and try to make a difference,” he said.

“We were fortunate that they were missing Bemammer who does a lot of work in midfield. He wins the majority of their duels and we took advantage of his absence,” he added.

Cuadrat was also pleased with East Bengal FC winning the key moments in the game, something which they need to make a habit of if they are to have sustained success in the ISL.

“NorthEast United FC are a very difficult team and they were creating chances at the start of the game. If they scored the chance when were 2-0 up we would have to manage the situation. Football is a complicated game as a lot of things are happening. Thankfully, today things were in our direction,” he said.

The Spaniard also called his players to maintain the level of performance and always make the fans proud.

“It's clear to us that we have to show this intensity in every match. Whether we win or we lose, our supporters have to be proud of our efforts,” Cuadrat said.

“Today I saw the team with that kind of effort which was missing in some games before. So, now we have to maintain that intensity,” he added.

The win is very satisfying: Cleiton Silva

Silva who scored a brace accompanied his coach in the post-match press conference and was delighted with the three points after a tough recent period for the team.

“The people don't know how much we work here at East Bengal FC. We had really tough days after four games without a win,” he said during the post-match press conference.

“In the ISL every game is tough. Don't be fooled by the 5-0 because it was a difficult game. So, it's very satisfying,” he added.

The Brazilian had missed the penalty in East Bengal FC’s 1-2 loss against Kerala Blasters FC in their last home game but he bounced back with two goals to help the team to a victory.

“I thank my team and support staff for helping me after the Kerala Blasters FC game. We should not put ourselves too down and keep fighting,” he said.

“I feel happy. Scoring goals is always good. In football, there are good and bad days. We always want to have more good days than bad days,” he concluded.
