Ahead of the Bengaluru FC’s match against Kerala Blasters FC, coach Pezzaiuoli addressed the media during the official pre-match press conference.
Here are the excerpts from the press conference.
Bengaluru FC have got good results in the last few matches. But when things weren’t going your way did you think about changing your style?
We were clear from the beginning. It’s our style. But it also depends on the opponents and the situation. Sometimes you press high, sometimes you go for the first ball and sometimes you go for the second. Pressing forward and getting the ball back as soon as possible is our style. The players like it and we feel well.
How’s the mood in the camp after the last win?
The mood is good. It was a difficult game to win against a strong team. We played well and scored some nice goals. We have now scored the second highest number of goals. It shows a lot. The team is doing well.
Kerala Blasters FC will play after a long gap while BFC were impressive in the last match. How do you look at this situation?
I think we need to look at it a bit differently. Kerala Blasters FC have trained for five days. As for us it will be our third game in eight days after 12 days of quarantine. It’s very hard. We made a lot of changes in the last game, not based on tactics but just keeping in mind the condition of the players.
Last time around it was a 1-1 draw, what are you expecting this time?
I think we were the better team in the last game. We conceded in the end but we had enough chances to win the game. I was unhappy that we lost two points. We need to focus on ourselves and try to be stronger than Kerala.
How important has the contribution of the youngsters been?
I think it has been very important. It’s our philosophy here. We tried to get more younger players this season. Our academy is doing a good job. We need to push more youngsters from our academy into the senior team.
Do you think the team is gaining momentum at the right time?
Yeah, I think it’s also about preparation. Like Sunil Chhetri has zero preparation coming into the season. He came straight from the national team to us. Similarly with Suresh (Suresh) as well. When you have time to rest and recover then you get better. Also, Sunil now understands what we want. In the last game he gave a lot of effort for the team. He created chances and had the highest running speed. He is a very important player for us.
