Chennaiyin FC head coach Thomas Brdaric was disappointed with the performance of his players and bemoaned their missed chances as they went down 0-2 to FC Goa at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, in Chennai, on Friday.
The Marina Machans came close to scoring on multiple occasions in the first half, but were denied by FC Goa keeper Dheeraj Singh, who was on top of his game. Brdaric’s attackers were kept quiet in the second half as the Gaurs sealed their second win on the trot.
Brdaric felt the missed chances made the difference in the end, and he called for his side to improve their finishing.
Here are the excerpts from Brdaric’s press conference:
Your thoughts on the game?
It's normal if you lose and you're completely upset. The way we gave up, it's not acceptable. We didn’t mark their players and we showed lack of concentration. And then, we didn't have the luck to score.
Your thoughts on both the halves?
During the first half, the players didn’t follow some instructions. We have to speak about it. I was terrified at half-time. Again, we wasted two opportunities. You have to be organised all the time and settle down in a way because you can score all the time. You have to believe that you can score at any time in the game. We made too many mistakes.
“A defeat is normal in life. We have to show character and mentality.”

Do you think your players lacked in finishing the chances?
Absolutely. Football is decided in the box, and we were not able to score. We had two chances. We showed FC Goa the weaknesses in our game.
Barring Debjit Majumder, you have stuck with the same lineup in the opening three games. Will you stick with the same players going forward?
No, we are building a new team from the beginning. But we have to go (out on the pitch) with maximum intensity without the ball and we need to be effective. If you are not able to do these things then you can't play at a high level. We'll see for the next game, which players are ready for the battle against East Bengal FC.
Do you think playing another striker in your formation could play dividends?
We have to figure out why we were not able to score, and we are working all the time. This week (in training), we were looking good with our finishing, but I don't know what went wrong (on the pitch). We have to see the game again and analyse.
