Defender Gouramangi Singh expressed disappointment after Chennaiyin FC were routed 4-1 by Delhi Dynamos FC in a Hero Indian Super League fixture in the national capital on Saturday night but was hopeful that the squad would bounce back in their next outing.“I think we just couldn’t come off as a team as we did in the last two games. Conceding the first two goals really knocked the stuffing out of us and I think the better team won. It’s disappointing but we’ll try to come back,” he said after the match. In the second half, the Manipuri player felt the team had a chance to stage a comeback after Elano converted a free kick and made the score 2-1, but the penalty conceded by his team and converted by their rivals took the game away from Chennaiyin FC. “When it was 2-0 we really felt everything wasn’t going to plan, but when Elano scored we were lifted and we really tried to get back in the game. Unfortunately, we conceded a penalty and the game slipped away, so we’ll try to play better in the next game.” Gouramangi remarked. In reply to a question, the 28-year-old international acknowledged the culpability of his defence in leaking so many goals but clarified that Chennaiyin FC win and lose as a team: “Our responsibility is in defence so we are always the ones to blame when we concede the goals, but we are also involved with something or the other; so if the defenders were at fault we will surely take the blame; but our mentality is that we win as a team and we lose as a team.”In spite of the adverse result, Gouramangi thinks that the team’s strengths lie in its defence and counter attacks, “We have the strength to counter and we have the strength to defend. It’s just that everything didn’t fall into place and it just wasn’t our day.”
