FC Goa head coach Derrick Pereira felt that the side could have captured the three points against Kerala Blasters FC at the Tilak Maidan Stadium on Sunday in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL).

FC Goa fought back to level the scoreline against Kerala Blasters FC after conceding two early goals. Pereira was happy with the character the team showed to crawl their way back but felt the win was on the cards.

Pereira spoke to the media after the match in the post-match press conference.

Here are the excerpts from the press conference:

Do you think it is a fair result as the game swung both ways?

No, I think we lost two points. Yes, in the first 10 to 20 minutes of the game we conceded two goals, but the boys showed character and stuck to our style of play. We got those two equalisers and in the second half, we were trying to go for the winner.

The two goals scored by Kerala Blasters FC, were they avoidable?

I don’t think there was a goalkeeping mistake but I do think that we should have done better for the second goal. We should have pressed the player more and we gave him a lot of space to take the shot, and it got connected well, it dipped inside and went in. We had a plan for their set-piece goal but the man-marking went wrong.

What are the positives you take from the second half of the match?

We are looking at improving our team. There is one more match in the first leg and there are ten more in the second leg. I am sure that once we get our players back fit on the ground, we will do better. We organised our defence earlier and today we were working on the overall performance of the team; keeping the ball in the midfield, trying to open up the defence. I am happy with the players the way they have worked hard and put in effective efforts. We have to improve our decision making in the attacking third, that’s the area we have to work on.
