Delhi Dynamos FC registered their first win in Hero Indian Super League Season 2, beating Chennaiyin FC 1-0 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi on Thursday. The man who made it possible for the home side was Brazilian Chicao whose penalty in the eighth minute did the job.Addressing the media after the match, the home team’s marquee player-cum-coach Roberto Carlos seemed satisfied but emphasized that his team had a long way to go. “My team was very strong physically. We could have scored more goals. We were well positioned for all their attacks but we have to improve a lot and we will,” Carlos said.Chicao, who kept Carlos company at the press meet, was happy to have played his part in the team’s win. “I’m happy with my performance, but as the coach said, we will get better.”When asked what it was like playing against some real physical players in the opposition team, Chicao said, “As for physicality, I am used to playing against physical players but it was tough. Happy with my performance but we will get better.”Defender John Arne Riise and midfielder Hans Mulder had a good day at the office and when Carlos was asked to assess their performance, he said, “I always do my analysis in general. All the players performed well. But obviously Riise, Chicao, Mulder and [Florent] Malouda are the leaders of the team, the four captains, and they have to be the reference for the team.”Carlos explained why his team slowed down as time wore on. “This is normal in this heat. We were winning 1-0 so we were playing counter-attacks. Chennai didn’t score once on the target. We used the speed of Mulder, [Richard] Gadze and Gustavo dos Santos. I don’t need to win 5-0. It’s the same three points,” he said.“Of course the fans want to see a lot of goals but we are just starting the competition. We will face difficulties in the next few games. The team is getting to know each other. They will do better as the league progresses,” he added.Around 20,000 spectators turned up to see Delhi Dynamos hand Chennai a second successive defeat in the league. Chicao thanked the home supporters for being behind the team all through the game. “The supporters were cheering continuously. The supporters make the game better. They make the party happen. It was like this in Goa and over here as well. We have four away games and we will face tough teams and supporters. I want to thank the Delhi supporters for coming here and cheering for us,” he said.
