East Bengal FC head coach Stephen Constantine stated the missed chances by his team proved costly as the Red and Gold Brigade lost 2-0 to Hyderabad FC in the Matchweek 16 fixture of Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 season at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata, on Friday.

Hyderabad FC opened the scoring in the ninth minute when Javier Siverio headed the ball past East Bengal FC keeper Kamaljit Singh. Aaren D'Silva sealed the three points for the visitors with the second goal of the night in the 93rd minute.

East Bengal FC continue to stay on the ninth spot in the Hero ISL points table after a third straight defeat. Meanwhile, Hyderabad FC continued their six-match unbeaten streak as they earned 11th win of the season.

East Bengal FC came close to scoring on a few occasions but couldn't put the ball at the back of the net. Constantine stated that his team got punished for not taking their chances.

"We had one or two good chances, we hit the crossbar in the first half but in the second half, we had three chances where we had to score. We could've won the game on another day, but we didn't take our opportunities. And when you don't take your opportunities, you get punished. The team gave a much better performance than in the last two-three games. You could see the spirit, the fight and the workmanship of the players but it wasn't enough. We made too many mistakes, not just from a defending point of view but at the attacking end as well but I can't complain about the boys for their efforts, they gave their best," Constantine said in the official post-match press conference.

Constantine's men are eight points off the top six spot and have conceded the third-most goals (27) in the Hero ISL this season. The East Bengal FC head coach shed light on how the squad needs time to rebuild.

"For anybody to think that we can be a top-six team from the position that we started the season is very difficult. I'm not saying it's not impossible but it's very very difficult to get the right players in the right position. For me, the plan is to rebuild this team. I don't say that from scratch, we have some players that are going to help us going forward. I want to win more than anybody else. The players worked very hard today, they deserved a point, they didn't, it's finished. We have six more games and next season, you will see," he added.
