We deserved to win the game: Odisha FC’s Sergio Lobera
Odisha FC head coach Sergio Lobera shared his thoughts his side played out a goalless draw against Bengaluru FC.
Odisha FC head coach Sergio Lobera believes that his team should have got all three points against Bengaluru FC after the two sides played out a goalless draw at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday.
It was an action-packed evening in Bengaluru where both sides created plenty of chances, but their defences of both teams stood tall as the match ended on level terms.
Odisha FC's Mourtada Fall and Bengaluru FC's Shankar Sampingiraj made two goal-line clearances for their respective teams which saw both sides record a clean sheet.
Lobera’s side enjoyed more possession (58%) and also registered more shots (15) in comparison with the Blues. However, despite the result, the Odisha FC head coach was satisfied with the efforts that his players put in during the game.
“We want to win the game. We came here for three points, so we can’t be happy with one point,” Lobera said in the post-match press conference.
“For me, my players did an amazing job; they made an amazing effort also; I can’t ask more from them. It was a very good game. We generated a lot of chances; we dominated the game in most of the phases against a difficult team in a difficult stadium. I felt we lost three points because, finally, we had clear chances to score and to win the game,” he continued.

The Spaniard had words of praise for his players, who have been performing well in several competitions simultaneously. Odisha FC have already secured a playoff berth for a second season running.
“It’s painful because, finally, we want to win, but I can’t ask more from my players. They are having an amazing season. They also did an amazing job today,” he commented.
“For me, we need to be more clinical in the final third and score on the chances we had. When you score the first goal, it changes everything. Then they need to play more advanced, and we are going to have more chances. This is the difference. I feel we deserve to win the game,” he added.
Following their draw against Gerard Zaragoza’s team, Odisha FC’s hopes for the ISL League Shield have taken a significant jolt. Lobera is still very hopeful about achieving something special by the end of the season.
“I am always optimistic (about winning something). Because when you are working with players like this, you need to be optimistic,” he stated.
“In the remaining three games, I am sure my players are going to do their best; we can achieve something important for sure. 100% sure. I am happy with the work my players did,” he signed off.
