Bengaluru FC head coach Simon Grayson was gutted with his team's loss and believes a draw would have be a fair result as the Blues went down 0-1 against ATK Mohun Bagan after a tough fight in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, in Bengaluru, on Saturday.

Both teams got their fair share of chances to open the account, but it was Dimitri Petratos' thunderous strike from outside the box that made the difference at the full time. Grayson, who addressed the media in the official post-match press conference, felt that his team did enough defensively, but a sole mistake by them was punished by that fantastic finish from Petratos.

However, the Bengaluru FC head coach remains confident that the Blues would get the results they wanted, if they can replicate these kind of performances in the future.

Here are the excerpts from Grayson's conference:

How do you assess the whole performance of the team?

I like to think I'm a good judge of a game as a coach and as a player for the number of years I've been involved in it. It's a tough one to take because at the very least we deserved a 0-0 draw and we've limited a team that got probably the best front four in the division to one shot on target, which entered in the back of the net and one mistake was punished by an absolutely fantastic finish. We couldn't do much more apart from not making a mistake for that goal, but also putting the ball in the back of the net when we had the opportunities. Javi Hernandez had a great opportunity early on in the game. Sivasakthi (Narayanan) hit the bar and we've had some other close opportunities.

We deserved at least a draw out of that game and everybody's actually gutted because the effort, the commitment was there, the desire, the hunger that was questioned a few weeks ago in Mumbai. It was certainly there last week and it's there again tonight. We know what we are as a team. We've not got the same sort of talent as ATK Mohun Bagan. We know that but what we do is we work out for each other. We have a good shape and you need the right big moments in the game to go your way and Javi Hernandez's one was certainly one, with the form he is in and then we get punished for that one mistake. So it's a tough one to take. But if we play like that every week with a bit more confidence in the top end of the pitch, then we are not going to be too far away from getting a lot more positive results.

We can see players being disappointed at the end of the match as to how much the loss hurt them. Is this affecting the confidence as well?

No, if you saw the game tonight, you could see the players were believing in themselves and they had confidence. They are absolutely gutted at the end of the game because they gave everything that they could do. Our two full-backs marked the best wingers in the game, (they) never got an opportunity. Their enter forward (Petratos), did not have an opportunity apart from the goal. Hugo Boumous is a fantastic player, not had a sniff on target with Suresh (Singh) being close to him.

So, we've done all that side of the game really well. We get punished for one mistake. And as I said, not quite being able to put the ball in the back, when we have these chances. That's all it is at the end of the day, it's not a lack of confidence in desire and hunger and all the words that you can use. It is more to do with how frustrated and how disappointed that we've actually lost again that we didn't deserve to lose. for those. I think if anybody else seeks any difference, that's their opinion.

The substitutes Leon Augustine and particularly Siva (Narayanan) came on and really changed the course of the game. A word on them?

Well, that's what you're looking to do. You're looking to the bench to affect the game when we need them to and we felt that Leon coming on would give us a bit of pace, so I took Sunil (Chhetri) off. Sunil (Chhetri) came back into the team tonight and did a good job and and Sivasakthi (Narayanan) came on and he has obviously plenty of goals in pre-season. Probably, with the opportunity he had (tonight), he would have scored that in the pre-season and that's the difference between fine margins, from pre-season to where we are at this moment in time.

I am pleased with the players who made an impact off the bench because they have to do. No point in putting players on if they're not going to make an impact. And that's what we have to try and do. We've not got the biggest of squads with lots and lots of options like some of the other teams, but we've got to keep going and keep believing. I've got to keep saying if we play a lot like that in the large parts of the season remaining, then we're going to win a lot more games.
