ATK Mohun Bagan will take on Mumbai City FC in the grand finale of the 2020-21 Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) season at the Fatorda Stadium on Saturday. The Islanders did the double over ATK Mohun Bagan during the league stage and with their second win over the Mariners also secured the Hero ISL League Winners Shield and a place in next year’s AFC Champions League.

Be that as it may, Mariners forward David Williams has a lot of faith in his team and believes the defeats against the Islanders will have no impact on Saturday’s game from an ATK Mohun Bagan point of view. “It [the defeats] will be playing on some of the players’ minds. For me, no. With my experience, you can’t dwell on the past. You can't dwell on statistics or past results. We have to move on and focus.

“We have a very strong belief in this team, that we can get something out of this season. We are very determined. We are a resilient group. We have got nothing to lose on Saturday. We are going to go out and give our everything. The only thing we can gain is a trophy,” he said on ‘Let’s Football Live’ on the eve of the match.

With two of this season’s best teams fighting for the title, Williams is of the opinion that the outcome of the game will depend on which team wants the trophy more and puts in more effort. “It’s going to come down to who was better on the day. I think it’s going to be a big battle. We know each other well. We’ve got two sets of teams with very good players on both sides.

“It’s going to come down to who wants more on the night. It will be an exciting game. Two of the best teams in the league will be fighting for the trophy. So, I think we will stick to what we know,” said the 33-year-old forward.

Ahead of the 2020-21 season, two-time champions ATK FC and Hero I-League club Mohun Bagan announced their merger to form ATK Mohun Bagan. Heading into the ultimate game of the season, the Aussie, who has scored five goals, including two in the semis, and provided two assists so far, expects his team to be around for a very long time. “I am very happy to be a part of this club that makes history. It’s very special. If Mohun Bagan was around for so long, I'm sure that ATK Mohun Bagan will be around for much longer.

“When people look back on this year, I feel like I have contributed to the club and my name will be associated with the club in the future. It’s a huge legacy that we are a part of and it can only grow stronger,” he said.
