Mohun Bagan Super Giant head coach Juan Ferrando aims to secure all three points against Mumbai City FC in their next Indian Super League (ISL) match at the Mumbai Football Arena on Wednesday.

Mumbai City FC has been unbeaten in all seven of their previous ISL outings against the Mariners. However, this encounter promises to be even more exciting as both teams are currently undefeated in the league this season. The Mariners, enjoying their best start in ISL history, have garnered 19 out of 21 possible points in seven matches and are eager to overturn their recent record against the Islanders to maintain their unbeaten run.

Ferrando wants his players to replicate their recent performance against Mumbai City FC, where his team secured a 3-1 victory in the Durand Cup quarterfinal a few months ago. The Spaniard has his sights set on nothing but three points in their upcoming away match in Mumbai.

“We’ll start the game with the same aim: to get the three points,” Ferrando stated in the pre-match press conference.

“In the last season, we didn't get great results against them. (But) the last game we won against them was in the Durand Cup. So, we have to keep going on the same momentum against them,” he added.

Ferrando emphasizes that participating in the AFC Champions League helps Mumbai City FC elevate their performance and provides players with valuable experience at the international level.

Speaking in context, he stated: “Of course, if you play in the AFC Champions League, the good thing about playing in these competitions is that the team grows up when playing against big teams.”

“Playing in these competitions is a good challenge for the club and also for the players," he added.

Ferrando anticipates a tough challenge against the Islanders, recognizing that both teams are determined to secure the win. He acknowledges the quality of Mumbai City FC's squad, both offensively and defensively. Furthermore, he has analyzed how the team, coached by Petr Kratky, managed to create numerous attacks in their last game against East Bengal FC.

“I think that they are a very good team,” he added.

“If you have watched the last game against East Bengal FC, I think they were desiring the three points. They almost pushed for a goal for 90 minutes. East Bengal FC defended very well there. But I think Mumbai will be here to go for the three points like us. So it's going to be a good clash,” he shared.

Greg Stewart serves as their primary attacking force, consistently contributing to every offensive opportunity. When questioned about strategies for containing Stewart, Ferrando dismisses the idea of individual plans, emphasizing his belief in concentrating on the team as a whole rather than singling out specific players.

“I never have individual plans for any player,” he opined.

“I trust my team all the time. I prepare the team for defensive and offensive things, but I never have plans for individual players because, for me, the most important thing is to plan for the team,” he signed off.

They have many quality players: Hugo Boumous

Hugo Boumous joined his coach in the press conference ahead of their upcoming away game against Mumbai City FC. He echoed his coach's perspective, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the entire Mumbai City FC team rather than individual players.

Similarly, for Mohun Bagan Super Giant, he noted that they possess a great squad, and the key is not relying on any individual player

Speaking in context, he said: “It will be disrespectful to speak only about Greg Stewart. They have many quality players.”

“They have Jorge Pereyra Díaz, Lallianzuala Chhangte, Bipin Singh, Abdenasser El Khayati, and many other good players. They have a complex squad, which will be the same for us. Also, while speaking about Mohun Bagan Super Giant, it will be disrespectful to speak only about me. We feel every player on the field can deliver (for us). We have so much quality with all the guys, and that's collective work,” Boumous concluded.
