Want to win a trophy; play attacking football to entertain Kerala Blasters FC fans: Adrian Luna
Luna, currently into his fourth season with Kerala Blasters FC, is the club's longest-serving foreign player.
Kerala Blasters FC captain Adrian Luna is determined to work harder and end the club’s long wait for silverware in the upcoming season.
Since joining the Blasters in 2021, the Uruguayan midfielder has featured in 53 Indian Super League (ISL) games and made 30 goal contributions over the last three seasons. With his goal-scoring and playmaking abilities and artistic footwork, Luna has become the creative hub for the Yellow Army.
Recovering from a knee injury, Luna missed the majority of the team’s games last season, leaving an irreplaceable void in the Blasters' lineup. However, as Kerala Blasters FC are currently competing in the ongoing Durand Cup 2024 and the ISL 2024-25 season inching closer, the Blasters captain shared his objectives for the coming season.
"First of all, I want to play all season. Secondly, the goal for me and my team is to win a trophy. And, thirdly, to play good and attacking football, to entertain the people in the stadium, and have fun on the pitch,” Luna said in an interview with Sportstar.
Kerala Blasters FC have undergone a revamp in their coaching department, with former head coach Ivan Vukomanovic parting ways with the club, leaving the floor open for Swedish head coach Mikael Stahre.
Luna, who made his ISL debut under Vukomanovic's guidance, is set to kick off a new chapter under Stahre.
When quizzed about the differences he has experienced between the two head coaches, Luna said: "Some principles are the same, but the general idea of football of Ivan (Vukomanovic) and Mikael (Stahre) is different. When you come in as a new coach, you need to work a lot on the tactical aspect, and he has been doing that."
"With the new coach, we have some fresh principles, which you can see already. We press high; we want to recover the ball high on the pitch, be vertical, and score. But at the same time, one has to manage it well because they cannot press for 90 minutes,” he remarked.
Having spent three exciting years, the Uruguayan is set to continue his association with Kerala Blasters FC for the forthcoming season and beyond, becoming one of the longest-serving foreigners in the club's history.
Luna is committed and determined, with his eyes fixed on making history with Kerala Blasters FC by leading them to their elusive silverware.
"Now, it’s my fourth season with Kerala Blasters FC, and it’s amazing. The only way we, as a team, can pay them back is to give everything on the pitch and win a trophy for them,” Luna said.
"For the club and for myself, it is very important because this club has been waiting for 11 years for a trophy. It means a lot that we take that burden off our shoulders,” he further stated.
