Kerala Blasters FC and Odisha FC played out a 2-2 draw in Match 90 of Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2020-21 at the Fatorda Stadium on Thursday. The Blasters managed 23 shots, including nine on target, but scored only two goals, and head coach Kibu Vicuna was unhappy about that at the post-match press conference.

“We clearly deserved to win tonight. We created very good chances. We didn’t kill the game when the score was 2-1. We had chances to score but when the match is open, everything is possible. We are unhappy because we wanted the three points,” the Spanish head coach said.

“We wanted to win the match and get the points. We were the much better team in both halves. We had too many chances but scored only two goals. It’s difficult to digest this situation. For me, it is unbelievable that we didn’t win,” he added.

Vicuna also expressed that he expected a better performance from his defenders. “We were playing offensive football and creating many chances but we had the same problem of balance [between attack and defence] against Odisha. We are conceding too much. It is not possible to concede two goals in every game because it is difficult to score goals as well,” he said.

Meanwhile, Odisha FC interim head coach Gerald Peyton was happy with how his team fought till the end for a win. “We had a gameplan and we stuck to it. That enabled us to almost pinch the game at the end. We had two massive chances. We could have stolen the game and that’s what really pleased me,” Peyton said.

Odisha conceded two quick goals in the second half to relinquish their lead and would have gone on to lose the match if not for a second goal by Diego Mauricio. Peyton urged his players to contribute more towards Odisha’s goal tally for the season. The Bhubaneswar-based club only have three unique goalscorers this season, with Mauricio scoring nine of their 16 goals. “It would be nice if the other players could contribute more goals. At the moment, Diego is scoring almost all the goals, and Cole [Alexander] has scored a few,” said the interim head coach.
