Chennaiyin FC head coach Bozidar Bandovic wants his side to arrive on the field with discipline and confidence against a ‘dangerous’ Mumbai City FC in their next match in Hero Indian Super League (ISL) on Sunday.
Both clubs are presently tied on points in the standings with 19 points (5 wins and 4 draws each) and are searching for a way to break into the top-four once again.
Ahead of the clash against Mumbai City FC, head coach Bandovic addressed the media during the pre-match press conference.
Here are the excerpts from the press conference:
What was your message to your team against SC East Bengal at half-time?
To keep playing the same. We played a very good first half and dominated the game. There were some small issues tactically and we told them to use it more. The second half was totally different. You can also say to the players to be careful and then concede the goal, putting fear in your squad. I don’t do that. I always go out and say to the players to score one or more goals, and this is the point. We should continue the same.
Mumbai City FC are winless in their last seven matches, is this the best chance to gain three points over such a dangerous side?
It is a good chance but they are a champion side. If you see their squad, it is the best squad. Individually, they have very good players who are technically sound. they move the ball in dangerous combinations in set-pieces. They have no pressure. They will play freely. But we can say there is a chance because they didn’t win games. We need to be good. Yes, it’s our chance, we would look to use it.
How do you want to turn things around after recent setbacks?
I want to keep the first half from the last game. The other thing is, we need to keep our full concentration in the defensive set-piece that we didn’t mark really well. You can see that in how we conceded the goal. Now we are playing against one of the best teams that have very good players, it is a champion side. We need to be focused and disciplined for the full ninety minutes. We will try to dominate the game.
How much improvement have you seen in the Indian players?
For me now, it is very positive for the team. Ninthoi has a very good future. He did very well, of course, he needs experience and games to gain control in his runs. Suhail (Pasha) also has a very good future. This is another positive for us. Edwin can do better and he knows this himself. He is a clever guy and a good player. These young boys showed good character and they can be the future of the club.
