Hyderabad FC suffered a 2-0 defeat against FC Goa at the GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium in the Indian Super League (ISL) on Wednesday. FC Goa’s goals came from Udanta Singh and Iker Guarrotxena who took advantage of defensive lapses to secure the win. Hyderabad FC had more shots on target but struggled to convert their chances into goals.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Hyderabad’s head coach Thangboi Singto shared his thoughts on the game and the team’s challenges.

"Yeah, I think we had 20 or 21 shots, maybe 23, I don't know. And seven was on target. But the chances which, the last part of the game where we crossed and Allan (Paulista) tried, I think those half chances we didn't take it. And of course, the goalkeeper (Hrithik Tiwari), I think he made seven saves. That shows us that we are, I told the boys that we have to be taking shots and get numbers there in the box and it happened. But it's about the finesse, it's about the clinicality," he said.

Singto admitted that defensive errors were costly. The end of the first half saw Hyderabad FC 2-0 to the Guars as they scored in the 33rd and 44th minute respectively. Though Hyderabad FC tried to regain momentum during the second half they could not yield results.

"They (players) were told that we've got to be a little bit tough on the situation, 1v1. But we lost the ball in the midfield and it was countered. And the second goal again, I think it was from our mistake again... I think this is difficult because I'm not sure how we can bring the best out of the boys at the moment. Because we had a lot of changes at the moment." he explained.

He also praised the contributions of certain players, saying, "Did we miss Alex (Saji)? I think not much, as (Mohammed) Rafi stood up quite well. Soyal (Joshy) came in and did a good job.. But we haven’t been able to put the ball in the goal. That’s the story."

Hyderbad FC have suffered 7 defeat from 10 matches played this season and they remain in the 11th position in the table.

On adjustments to the system, Singto emphasized adaptability and stressed the need for improvement before the next match.

"When things don't work, I think you have to change something. That's why, well, in terms of personnel, we have the same players. So we just have to look at what will work for us. But again, even today, we played with two strikers and things have really happened. So we have to see what we can do.We have a few days to work before we play Chennaiyin FC..Because at the moment, nothing is working in the field."

With some of Hyderabad FC's players like Alex Saji out due to injury, Singto talked about the substitutions and the changes to the team

"See, at the moment, Alex being not there, we have to play Rafi as a centre-back.So defensively, we had Manoj Mohammad but Manoj just came out from a long, long injury. So it was a question of whether Rafi playing as a right-back. Because at least Rafi and Sourav K coming back, at least we know we're quick players. We can counter at the right time. And defensively still, you know, we can cover areas. That was the only reason.Leander D'Cunha well, a talented boy.But we need to see the stat also.. So sometimes, maybe to help the player himself, maybe, you know, just coming out or maybe coming later on the game might help.Or, yeah, we have to keep on working with him," he added.

Looking ahead he stressed the areas that need to be worked on.

He said: "Because as a team, I think we played better than the previous. But again, it's about goals...Conceding two goals And I think we had our chances. we should be more aggressive on the box, I think... we were not good enough at the moment, so we know. And we have to step up...We have to work harder. We have to find solutions, like whether changing the system will work or changing the personnel will work.We have to see."

Hyderabad FC will aim to bounce back in their next ISL clash against Chennaiyin FC, looking to break their winless streak and regain momentum in the league.
