Marcos Tebar has agreed terms with Delhi Dynamos FC to extend his stay at the capital-based club for a further year, the club announced on Wednesday.

The Spaniard is a product of the famed Real Madrid academy and spent the majority of his career playing in Spain, barring a two-year stint with English side Brentford. The midfielder arrived on Indian shores back in 2016 and made his Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) debut in Delhi Dynamos colours. Tebar had a stellar first season in India and guided the Lions to the semi-finals of Hero ISL 2016 with some stunning displays.

He moved to FC Pune City for the 2017-18 season and had another productive campaign, helping the Stallions to the top four for the first time in the club's history.

The 2018-19 season saw the Spanish midfield maestro return to Delhi amidst much fanfare. He was also handed the club captain's role for the season. The campaign however, turned out to be far from the fairytale homecoming for the Spaniard as Delhi finished eighth on the table. Plagued by injuries, Tebar personally had a muted season too, making just 13 appearances.

Despite the disappointments from last season, Tebar is still considered as one of the most coveted midfielders in the league due to his ability to control matches from the midfield. The Spaniard is one of the best passers of the ball to have ever graced the league and his 82.66 per cent passing accuracy quantifies the quality. He also has two goals and seven assists to his name in the Hero ISL.

Having already played in 42 Hero ISL matches, the 33-year-old is also one of the most experienced foreign recruits playing in the league currently. A natural leader on and off the pitch, Tebar's presence in the dressing room may prove essential for a very young Delhi squad in the upcoming season.
