FC Goa became the first team in Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2019-20 to breach the 30-point mark after a 4-2 win over Odisha FC at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. Goa breezed to a 3-0 lead in the first half, but Odisha pulled two back in the second half. A late Ferran Corominas strike eventually sealed the result in the Gaurs' favour.

At the post-match press conference, Goa head coach Sergio Lobera expressed his disappointment at how his team allowed Odisha a way back in the match and said, “Today we got three very important points. We came back to the top of the table, but I am not happy. In the second half, when you’ve scored three goals in the first half, we shouldn’t be conceding with these mistakes and increasing the motivation of the opposition team.”

“These mistakes happened against Chennaiyin FC, against Kerala (Blasters FC). I think this is not the best way. But three very important points for us. We need to learn and improve how we approach the second half for the next match. I think in the first half, we played very well. We controlled the game. Today we saw two different sides of FC Goa. The first half and the second half. It’s very important to be level in our idea. We need to improve this aspect,” added Lobera.

Expanding on his team’s incredible first half showing, the Spaniard stated, “I think Odisha had a lot of problems today with respect to injuries and suspensions. But I am going to credit FC Goa in the first half. They have a very good team, a strong team. But in the first half, we played very well. Before this, in all matches at home, Odisha won and for us this is a very good three points.”

Finally, Lobera expressed his satisfaction at the brace scored by Jackichand Singh. He said, “I am happy for him but to me, the most important thing is the team and not individual players. Who scored the goals is not important to me. The most important thing is to find the best way for the team to score.”
