FC Goa handed ATK FC only their second defeat of the season at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa on Saturday to climb atop the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2019-20 table with a 2-1 win. Mourtada Fall returned from suspension to score the opener for the home side, while Ferran Corominas slotted home the winning goal after Jobby Justin had equalised for ATK.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Goa head coach Sergio Lobera gave his views on the win, “I think it was a big match against big opponents. As I had said, ATK are in a position of finishing the league at a very high position. After seven matches and after being troubled with too many problems with suspensions and injuries, for the first time, I had the full squad. To finish at the top of the table is important for the club, the fans and the players. I am very proud of all the players. If today, we are on top of the table it is because of the whole squad who continued to work together in difficult situations.”

Talking about his team’s performance, the Spaniard added, “I can speak about some things that we can improve but today I want to congratulate the players. I think it was a difficult match against a very good team. We controlled possession of the ball, created chances and scored the goals. I think when my team conceded the goal, we showed good reaction and attitude. Today the team played well.”

He further continued, “I think the first half was very good, maybe the best this season. It is very important to continue working the same way but it’s not possible to not score after creating the chances. Today FC Goa was a better team than ATK.

Meanwhile, ATK head coach Antonio Lopez Habas looked disappointed after the match and when speaking about the loss, said, “Football is all about scoring the goals. If you don’t score the goals, then nothing can be done.”
