Sergio Lobera: Scoring goals is what wins matches

FC Goa lock horns with Delhi Dynamos FC in Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi on Saturday. The Gaurs are flying high after dishing out a 5-2 humbling to Kerala Blasters FC in their previous fixture, and will want to keep the momentum going when they visit the capital city. Speaking to the media during the pre-match press conference was Goa’s head coach Sergio Lobera, who began by highlighting how important Goa’s attack has been so far.
“It’s true that we’ve conceded a few goals so far and sometimes we’ve not been as decisive in the games,” Lobera admitted. “But what’s important is we’ve scored most goals so far. For us, it’s important to take points from that. Scoring goals is what wins matches and that’s what we’re going to do.”
Having said that, Lobera emphasised on the fact that their defence needs to be more secure. “It’s true that we have to improve certain aspects of our game and defence is certainly one of those aspects,” he opined. “Obviously, defence is an area of concern and ultimately, it’s very important to tighten the defence.”
When asked for his thoughts on the Dynamos, the 40-year-old said: “I think Delhi play a good brand of football,” he stated. “They play from the back and keep possession of the ball. It’s a similar style to what we play. So, we’ll see two teams going at it and end to end stuff. In fact, it makes the fixture even more attractive.”
