Indian football team defender Sandesh Jhingan has rejoined ATK Mohun Bagan, the club announced on Thursday after the 28-year-old defender mutually terminated his contract with Croatian top-tier league club HNK Sibenik.

Jhingan who played an integral part in the Mariners team that reached the final of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) last season had taken a plunge into European football by joining the Croatian top-tier team.

But a calf injury marred his time in Croatia as he has returned to ATK Mohun Bagan till the end of the ongoing campaign on Thursday.

Juan Ferrando’s men are third in the Hero ISL table just one point behind Hyderabad FC and Mumbai City FC who have set the pace so far this season.

Jhingan’s arrival would boost their chances of winning the Hero ISL crown and also making sure they win the League WInners’ Shield.

The 28-year-old centre-back is just two shy of 100 appearances in the Hero ISL and has been a losing finalists on three occasions, twice with Kerala Blasters FC and once with ATK Mohun Bagan.

Jhingan who was named the AIFF Player of the year for the 2020-21 campaign will be keen to finally get his hands on the title and his presence in the ATK Mohun Bagan only enhances their chances of going all the way.
