NorthEast United FC take on FC Goa in their third match of Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2019-20 at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Friday. A second consecutive home win for NorthEast United will strengthen the team’s position in the league table further after what’s been a good start to the season for them so far.

NorthEast United’s head coach Robert Jarni addressed the media at pre-match press conference and spoke about FC Goa’s attacking threat, especially from the wide areas, “We have played against strong teams before and faced very good and fast players. There is always a plan. We must be mentally strong, give 100 per cent concentration for 90 minutes and be very smart on the pitch. You have a plan for every game, not only for Goa. But we will not reveal the plan here. You will have to wait until the match to see it on the pitch.”

Many Hero ISL teams have suffered from serious injuries to key players this season, but that’s a problem that Jarni hasn’t faced yet and he believes that’s all down to good work by NorthEast’s fitness coach. “Everyone is fit because we have a very good fitness coach and we are working very hard, so everyone is fit. Hopefully we can remain fit for a very long time. It is going to be very difficult, but now we have a full squad ready to play,” Jarni said.

When asked whether the Hero ISL has met his expectations, Jarni responded, “On TV, it is very simple to see the game. But once you are on the pitch and see the opponents, it becomes difficult. The Indian and foreign players have been very good and when you are on the pitch you realise how difficult it is to win the game.”

Jarni was joined at the conference by NorthEast’s Dutch defender Kai Heerings, who was very appreciative of his new teammates, especially Asamoah Gyan, “I think our team is very good. The previous games were tough but four points out of two games is very good for us. (About Asamoah Gyan) He is very good. He scored an important goal in the last game, so everybody is happy with him.”
