The football superstars of tomorrow - the chosen 24 Reliance Foundation Young Champs (RFYC) scholars - began their schooling from June 11 at the Reliance Foundation School in Navi Mumbai.The RFYC Programme is a holistic scholarship that will provide the scholars an opportunity to develop and hone their footballing talent. It will also help them grow as individuals through a structured programme and cultivate their character and mental strength in preparation for the journey ahead. The Reliance Foundation School is a K-12 English Medium School which has the aspiration and commitment to deliver an enjoyable and enriching educational experience to the children – one that inspires and facilitates them to tap their potential and enables their holistic development. In pursuit of this goal, the school's curriculum draws on the National Curriculum Framework and the NCERT guidelines, and offers a fine blend of curricular and co-curricular elements.As per their age and academic history, the 24 scholars have been inducted in different academic grades. Nine of them have joined the eighth standard, seven children have joined the seventh standard, four scholars in the sixth with three children joining the fifth standard and one scholar in the ninth standard.Marcus Vaessen, who will head the RFYC Scholarship Programme as its Head Coach, has over 19 years of coaching experience across several clubs in Netherlands. Vaessen will be assisted by former Mohun Bagan midfielder Jose Barreto who will serve as the Assistant Coach to the programme. Barreto also served as the Assistant Coach of Hero Indian Super League franchise Atlético de Kolkata in the first edition of the league. Together, they will look to guide and nurture the scholars in their journey to the top.
