Kerala Blasters FC managed to secure a point when they took on Chennaiyin FC in Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Friday. CK Vineeth’s last-gasp equaliser ensured a 1 – 1 draw after Chennai took the lead through a Rene Mihelic spot-kick. Speaking to the media at the post-match press conference was Kerala head coach Rene Meulensteen, who seemed satisfied with the outcome but rued missed chances.

“If I would have sat here empty handed, I would have felt totally miserable because I thought we had a good performance,” he stated. “We should have gone 1-0 up with the Jakichand (Singh) chance and then the penalty basically threw a spanner in the works.”

He was also pleased after getting a point away to a good side. “Like I said, there's only one way to get confidence - by winning,” he explained. “They got a penalty for them to score. It was a good away point because they’re up there (on the points table) for a reason.”

Before wrapping up, he shared his thoughts regarding Chennai’s next fixture against southern rivals Bengaluru FC. “You always look for three points,” he said. “Bangalore will be a big game like Chennai. They’ve played a really good game against Jamshedpur. Hopefully this time we will keep the three points to us.”
