Jamshedpur FC head coach Khalid Jamil is disheartened as they concluded their Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 season with a 3-2 defeat to FC Goa at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur on Tuesday.

The home team opened the scoring within 17 minutes of the match, thanks to Rei Tachikawa's tap-in. However, FC Goa quickly responded, equalizing within the next four minutes as Noah Sadaoui displayed brilliant footwork before finding the back of the net from a tight angle. By the 28th minute, the momentum had shifted in favour of FC Goa as Carlos Martinez gave them the lead, converting Sadaoui’s cross.

The game remained intense as the Men of Steel continued pushing for an equalizer. Finally, in the 73rd minute, Seiminlen Doungel scored his second goal of the season, levelling the game. Unfortunately for Jamil’s men, FC Goa had the last laugh as Borja Herrera scored an injury-time winner, bringing an end to Jamshedpur FC’s ISL 2023-24 season in a disappointing manner, leaving them at the tenth spot on the league table.

The head coach expressed his dissatisfaction with the result but refrained from blaming anyone for the defeat.

“I am not blaming anyone, but I am not satisfied at all,” stated Jamil at the post-match press conference.

Upset with himself, he added, “We have lost. It is very shameful. I don't deserve to be here. I thought that we must come in the first six and I failed. That said, I am very thankful to the management. They gave me this chance. I'm very disappointed. I'm not blaming the players. The players worked very hard. But I am disappointed with myself.”

Jamshedpur FC finished the league season with 21 points from 22 matches, suffering 11 defeats in the process, and securing only five wins along with six draws. Their position could slide to 11th if Punjab FC secure a victory against East Bengal FC tomorrow.

Since Jamil took charge of the side, the Men of Steel have secured 12 points from 10 matches. Appreciating his players’ effort, the 46-year-old said, “Everybody worked hard. All the players are good.”

Jamil concluded the press conference by apologizing to the Jamshedpur FC fans and wishing them the very best for the next season.

“I am just saying sorry to them (Jamshedpur FC fans) and maybe all the best for them for the next season,” he signed off.
