The 33-year-old started his career at Porto and has played in top European clubs like Dynamo Zargeb, Olympiacos and St Etienne. The central midfielder has also represented the Portuguese national team in the past.
Having joined Mumbai City before the Hero ISL 2018-19, Machado took a little time to adjust to his new surroundings but once he did, became the focal point of the Islanders' midfield. He captained the side and led them to the semi-finals.
Individually, too, he shone and contributed with two goals and four assists. His leadership quality and expertise at dictating the game from the middle of the park will be integral to Mumbai City's fortunes in the upcoming seasons.
