Our ambition is to win every game, every tournament, every championship: ATK Mohun Bagan’s Juan Ferrando

ATK Mohun Bagan head coach Juan Ferrando wants his players to trust the plan he has laid down for the club and continue to play attacking football ahead of their match against FC Goa at PJN Stadium, Fatorda on Wednesday in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL).

Ferrando is now set to face his former club on the field for the first time since his departure. The Spaniard has expressed that it is difficult to put his emotions into words ahead of the game against FC Goa. However, his focus is now on ATK Mohun Bagan’s bid to lift the Hero ISL League Winners' Shield and Hero ISL trophy.

Ahead of his side’s clash against FC Goa, Ferrando addressed the media during a pre-match press conference.

Here are the excerpts from Ferrando’s press conference:

You have had a week's training here. How would you like to describe your preparation and experience with the players?

I think at this moment it's like expectation, the players are looking to go step by step. They are thinking about who is the target of the coach. And also, for me, I try to find the best options for the players. Day by day, we keep control of these feelings. But I understand it's difficult because when you have a pre-season, you have more time to explain about tactics, maybe you have more time to repeat some exercise now in this moment it's difficult because we are in the middle of the season. But I'm happy because the players want to learn. They asked me a lot of time. This is good for us.

What is your assessment of the quality of the squad?

I think the level is high. But now I think it's necessary to talk with the players that football is not only about the quality. It's necessary to work like a team, it's necessary to improve day by day. And it's necessary in this case to prepare the plans and all the players to trust in the plan.

In your opening statement when you joined the club, you said you'd like to build your own DNA make your own type of play. Can you elaborate on the type of football the fans can expect?

Yeah, our roles are pretty clear. It's how our target is playing in the attack. Of course, it's possible to build in the pitch of the opponent and 90% of the time aggressive press, immediately pressing high level while using the position as an attack.

After spending over a year at FC Goa and now shifting to ATK Mohun Bagan, what are your feeling currently?

My feelings are difficult to explain because in two days I changed a lot of things. And for me it's difficult to accept a lot of changes. The most important is to work now in our club. I wish all the best to FC Goa because sometimes it's necessary to take these decisions.

What are your thoughts on the match up as you face FC Goa next?

We'll see. Because this week for me it's a strange one, when you are preparing your team against your ex-team. In a normal case, you have time, you have days but in this case it's very difficult.

I don't know in this moment for me there are confusing feelings, emotions that are sometimes difficult to explain. It's okay, I am a professional. I try to do the best. Now I try to prepare my team. Before the game and after the game is different in the moment. I put my focus in to help the team and try to win the game.

You know the strong and weak points of FC Goa having been there for so long. Do you think it would be an advantage for you?

No, I don’t think so, because they have a new coach. 100% they have a new plan and the head coach was very close to the first team all the time and then 100% they know the squad and he must have prepared a new plan. This is my, my point of view, but I don't put attention about the opponents. I put attention in my players, in my team. I hope we have success with our plan.

Is there any target of points in the first half of the Hero ISL that you have that would keep the challenges of fortifying for the semi-finals?

This is our challenge to win and be in the playoff, win the trophy and also after the ISL be ready for the AFC Cup. Our ambition is to win every game, every tournament, every championship. But day by day training by training is very important at the end.
