Bengaluru FC head coach Gerard Zatagoza was pleased with his team's performance in their 4-2 win over Chennaiyin FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) on Saturday but also underlined areas where his team can improve.
The Blues were pegged back twice in the first half after taking the lead on two occasions but grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and clinched all three points to keep the pressure on leaders Mohun Bagan Super Giant at the top of the ISL table.
Match Report: Chennaiyin FC 2-4 Bengaluru FC
The Spaniard was pleased with the way his team dealt with the challenges thrown at them by Chennaiyin FC.
“I think we controlled the game. I think this was one of our best games away from home,” he said during the post-match press conference.
“We have conceded one goal each from a set-piece in the last five games. I was not happy as we were fragile unlike our first few games where we were really tough. We need to change this if we want to fight for something,” he added.
Speaking on their recent lack of clean sheets, Zaragoza touched upon how his team have started creating more chances in attack at the cost of being more open at the back.
“We have been training on the same level as before. In the first few games we conceded just one goal through a penalty but then we didn't score many goals,” he said.
“Now we are scoring many goals and we have a lot of chances. But then we are fragile at the back. I want us to be more compact,” he added.
Sunil Chhetri was on the scoresheet once again taking his season tally to nine goals, making him the highest Indian goalscorer in the league and the second-highest overall.
The Spaniard had words of praise for his captain.
“Sunil Chhetri is a top player and he is in a very good condition and is in one of the best forms of his career. I hope he continues like this,” he concluded.
