Odisha FC have secured the services of young defender Narender Gahlot from Jamshedpur FC ahead of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 season, the club announced on their social media handles on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the Kalinga Warriors, keeping him at the club until 2025.

Gahlot, who was crowned as the champion of the Hero ISL 2021-22 League Winners’ Shield with Jamshedpur FC, played an important role in their triumphant campaign, making 15 appearances for the Men of Steel.

The youngster, who majorly came off the bench, showed glimpses of his skill and technicality alongside Peter Hartley in the backline under manager Owen Coyle. Playing a total of 844 minutes, Gahlot made 33 clearances, 26 tackles, 15 interceptions, and 10 blocks across the 2021-22 campaign.

In what would be his fourth upcoming Hero ISL season in his career, the defender has shot up the ranks following his understanding and execution of the role and has gradually developed into a promising talent over the three years he’s spent at Jamshedpur FC.

The player was also picked up by Indian men’s national team head coach Igor Stimac for the Hero Intercontinental Cup held in 2019 - following his exceptional stint with Indian Arrows - where he made his first senior team debut in Indian colours and scored his maiden goal for the Blue Tigers.

Renowned for grooming young talents, Odisha FC can place their trust in Gahlot to be the face of their backline given his capability and potential. With a revamp on the cards, Odisha FC are getting straight down to business to ensure a robust squad for the upcoming season.
