Indian Super League (ISL) side Odisha FC on Wednesday revealed that head coach Sergio Lobera has put pen to paper on a contract extension, adding an extra year to his original two-year deal. This means the Spanish tactician will lead the Kalinga Warriors until 2026, bringing much-needed stability and continuity to the club.

Lobera's arrival in 2023 was a coup for Odisha FC. His reputation as an attacking mastermind, honed during successful stints at FC Goa and Mumbai City FC, promised a fresh approach for the Bhubaneswar-based side. And he didn't disappoint. He managed a total of 38 matches, securing victories in 21, drawing seven, while experiencing 10 losses. His team achieved their highest-ever finish in the league stage, finishing fourth in the ISL 2023-24 campaign. They accumulated the highest number of points in a single ISL season and also remained undefeated at the Kalinga Stadium throughout the season.

Under his leadership, the team maintained an unbeaten streak across 15 games across various tournaments that included the AFC Cup, where Odisha FC topped their group and were winners of the South Zone.

The decision to extend Lobera's contract is a clear indication of the faith Odisha FC management has in him.
