NorthEast United FC, on Sunday, announced the signing of Colombian defender Janeiler Rivas Palacios. The towering centre back comes with a wealth of experience, having played for an array of clubs in different South American countries like Colombia, Uruguay, Peru and Argentina. He will replace Mislav Komorski, who is out for the remainder of the season owing to an injury.

Though primarily a centre-back, Palacios can also slot in as a defensive midfielder if needed. At NorthEast, he will join up with fellow countryman Jose Leudo, who has already established himself as a vital cog in head coach Eelco Schattorie's system.

The 30-year-old last played for Colombian side Millonarios FC and even made an appearance in the prestigious Copa Libertadores for them against seven-time Brazilian champions Corinthians. He also won the domestic title with Millonarios back in 2017.

Palacios will be a welcome addition for the Highlanders, who have a very good chance of making it to the play-offs despite a brief fumble in the later stages of the league.
