Delhi Dynamos FC’s Sehnaj Singh’s pile-driver in the dying moments of the game broke Kerala Blasters FC’s heart but assistant coach Terry Morgan was satisfied to bow out of the 2015 Hero Indian Super League with a 3-3 draw at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Thursday evening. Kerala were already out of semis contention going into the match, and Morgan expressed satisfaction at the response his players came up with in their last game of the season.“He [Sehnaj] will probably not score another goal like that in his life. Coming back from a 5-1 loss against Goa, it was a fantastic response from the players. It’s just unfortunate that we didn’t hold onto it till the end. We’ll begrudgingly give the strike some credit, because it was a really clean one,” Morgan told reporters after the match.Morgan also blamed poor defence for last season’s finalists’ unsatisfactory campaign this time around. “If you look at our goals record, you can see for yourself. We’ve scored a lot more than last season, but we’ve conceded three times more than last season,” Morgan said.“Every time we made a mistake, someone scored. Sometimes you get away with it, sometimes you don’t. Going forward we were good, but every error we made, positioning etc. has been punished. It’s hard to work on players’ habits if they’ve been like that for 15 years. We shot ourselves in the foot today. We were 3-1 ahead but conceded two minutes later. Defensively, it’s been a problem. Goals conceded has been the concern.”Head coach Terry Phelan, who replaced Peter Taylor midway through the season, also attended the press conference and when asked to pick out the positives from their campaign, he said: “We tried to play football, obviously we tried to change the system and give the players more freedom and more excitement to go forward. It’s difficult to take positives but we scored goals. That’s what matters. So many players were very good. We tried to play good football and that’s a positive. It’s the response from the players that’s been extremely positive.”Phelan also confirmed he will be going back to his previous role of technical director at the club’s grassroots programme. “It’s been a great experience, fantastic team all around. I’ve fully enjoyed working with such players. From the tea lady, to Trevor, it’s been fantastic. I will be back on Saturday and Sunday, on my job. This has been fantastic.”When Morgan was queried about his future at the club, he said: “You never know what you will be doing next week. I don’t know. It’s up to the people at the club to decide. That’s how football works. I have no idea where I will be.”
