Both defending champions Mohun Bagan and runners-up Bengaluru FC registered wins as they remained tied on points at the summit of the Hero I-League, whereas East Bengal and Sporting Clube de Goa played out goalless draws against Mumbai FC and DSK Shivajians respectively in Week 2 of the league.

Mohun Bagan put in another solid performance to take maximum points from their opening two fixtures. The Mariners put on a clinical display and beat Salgaocar 4-2 at the Barasat Stadium in Kolkata.

Having taken the lead early through Katsumi Yusa and Cornell Glen strikes, the Kolkata giants went on to establish an unassailable lead with Luciano Sobrosa (FC Goa) and Balwant Singh (Chennaiyin FC) headers. The Goan side, however, did rally and tried to stage a late comeback courtesy of goals from Darryl Duffy (FC Goa), who was played through on goal delightfully by Jackichand Singh (FC Pune City), and Gurjinder Singh (FC Pune City) to make it 4-2.

Bengaluru FC beat Aizawl FC 1-0 to give Mohun Bagan no breathing space as they made it two wins out of two thanks to a solitary goal in the first half by Curtis Osano, who capitalized on a picture-perfect cross from Keegan Pereira (Mumbai City FC).

Meanwhile, East Bengal dropped points after they were held to a goalless draw by Mumbai FC at the Cooperage Stadium in Mumbai. Newcomers DSK Shivajians also shared the spoils with Sporting Clube de Goa at the Fatorda Stadium in Margao on Sunday.
