Delhi Dynamos FC crashed to a 4-1 defeat against Hero Indian Super League (ISL) debutants Bengaluru FC at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday. Delhi, who were coming off the back of an impressive 3-2 away win against FC Pune City, had no answer to a rampant Bengaluru squad who scored through Erik Paartalu, Lenny Rodrigues and Miku.

Delhi had their moments too, but was largely wasteful in front of goal. Captain Kalu Uche grabbed a late consolation for the team by scoring from the spot, but they could have had a few more had they been more clinical with their chances.

Speaking at the post-match press conference was Delhi’s understandably disappointed head coach, Miguel Angel Portugal, who was a worried man, given that the recovery period from their previous match was of only three days. “I want my players to recover, although, we don’t have enough days for recovery,” he said.

He was also quick to acknowledge Bengaluru’s superiority. “Bengaluru played better,” he stated. “My team couldn’t match the level on the artificial ground. I think we were outrun by Bengaluru in these conditions. I recognize this superiority. Congratulations to Bengaluru for playing a good match!” he concluded.
