Curtains were drawn on the eighth edition of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) in March, earlier this year, with Hyderabad FC edging past Kerala Blasters FC in a nail-biting summit clash. Arguably, it has been one of the most exciting seasons in the history of the tournament.

Jamshedpur FC topped the league stages with 43 points (the highest tally for any team in the history of the league). With 13 victories, they equalled Bengaluru FC’s record for most wins in a season.

Winning is a habit and teams that have mastered this art have found success easier to come by in the Hero ISL, despite its highly competitive nature.

Here's a look at teams with best win% in Hero ISL history.

ATK Mohun Bagan (53.33%)

ATK Mohun Bagan have the highest win% in the Hero ISL. Although it's important to note that the team joined the fray in 2020-21 season and has just played two seasons, their consistency across those two campaigns has been phenomenal.

They are the only team to have qualified for the semi-finals in the last two seasons of the Hero ISL.

Finishing second to Mumbai City FC in the 2020-21 season, by virtue of goal difference, the Mariners made their way to the title clash. However, they were defeated by a well-oiled Mumbai City FC.

ATK Mohun Bagan maintained their consistency in the Hero ISL 2021-22 as well, finishing third. However, they were ousted from the championship race over a two-legged semi-final.

Till now, they have the highest win percentage, having logged full points 24 of the 45 matches, maintaining a win percentage of 53.33%.

Bengaluru FC (47.05%)

If consistency is anything to go by, Bengaluru FC have shown it by setting an example in their first three seasons in the Hero ISL. The Blues finished as the league toppers in their first two seasons - 2017-18 and 2018-19 - making as many appearances in the final and claiming the coveted Hero ISL in the latter campaign.

Bengaluru FC qualified for the semi-finals for the third consecutive time in the following season, but could not progress further. Seventh and sixth place finishes in the last two seasons were uncharacteristic of them, and the fans are waiting for their team to revive the lost glory.

In 102 matches, Bengaluru FC scripted victories on 48 occasions, with a win percentage of 47.05.

Mumbai City FC (41.95%)

It has been a memorable journey for the Islanders in the Hero ISL so far. Average performances in the first couple of seasons evoked the urge to push themselves. In 2016, they finished in pole position to change the norm, but eventually failed to lift the trophy. Things traversed a similar path in 2018-19, as they slipped out in the semi-finals once again.

It was only after the new investors arrived that transformed them into a force to be reckoned with. In the Hero ISL 2020-21, Mumbai City FC not only lifted the Hero ISL trophy, but also secured the League Winners’ Shield to complete the double.

Having played 143 ISL matches, the Islanders have won 60 of them, with a percentage of 41.95.

FC Goa (41.33%)

One of most consistent teams in the history of the ISL, FC Goa would be thoroughly disappointed not to claim the championship even once. Their epic run in the Hero ISL 2019-20 was a treat to watch as they made merry under the adept supervision of Sergio Lobera. Even though they qualified for the AFC Champions League, the Hero ISL trophy eluded them.

With a weakened squad in the Hero ISL 2020-21, they still managed to reach the semi-finals, as new head coach Juan Ferrando carried on their philosophy of possession-based football. With a further depleted side, FC Goa have to complete an overhaul going forward. In 150 matches played, the Gaurs have won 62 times, with a win percentage of 41.33.

Jamshedpur FC (38.54%)

Jamshedpur FC was always in the reckoning to make it big since their arrival during the 2017-18 season. After finishing fifth a couple of times and securing the sixth post in the Hero ISL 2020-21, the Men of Steel unleashed their potential the following term. Owen Coyle, with a mix of experienced and young energetic footballers, struck gold in Hero ISL 2021-22.

By virtue of a seven-match winning streak to end the group stages, Jamshedpur FC finished at the top spot with a record breaking 43 points in their kitty. They would be disappointed not to complete the League Winners’ Shield and ISL Trophy double after losing to Kerala Blasters FC in the semi-final. In 96 Hero ISL matches, Jamshedpur have won 37 matches (38.54%).

Hyderabad FC who joined Hero ISL from the 2019-20 season have also enjoyed a healthy win percentage of 34.42 but find themselves just outside the top five. But the club is on the up having won Hero ISL 2021-22 and will be ready tp upset this pecking order next season.
