Atlético de Kolkata skipper and marquee player Luis García knows that the win in the inaugural Hero Indian Super League match against Mumbai City FC is now history and the real challenge begins on the road.

At a pre-match press conference ahead of the fixture against NorthEast United FC in Guwahati tomorrow, the Spanish winger-cum-attacking midfielder said that while the first win was important before their home crowd, they had to keep in mind that they had not done anything yet, and have to keep working hard to maintain the momentum.

García saw NorthEast United play the other day (against Kerala Blasters FC) and knows that they are a good team and are playing on their home turf but he insisted that his team will focus on its own game. “We will try to do the same things we did in the last game and try to do our best. We know that every game is going to be difficult, we know that this league format is very short so we have to focus on how we play,” he said.

García said he was impressed by his rivals, claiming the Highlanders played a very good game and knew what to do and were also compact in defence and had the ball for most of the time. He did not reveal his strategy to combat them but said his side keep the ball and pass it around.

“In the first game we played really well and scored three goals but every game is going to be different and for tomorrow’s game, we have to play the same way. We have to play well, we have to press in the middle of the pitch, create many chances,” he explained.

His team will not be keeping an eye on any particular player, but García revealed that a couple of North-east players who came on in the second half caught his eye because of their speed and because everyone else was tired.

“It’s very early to say anything and it’s very difficult to anticipate every game that comes along. Maybe in about three weeks, when everyone has played enough football to know each other well enough,” he said.
