FC Goa staged a stunning second-half comeback to claim all three points against Delhi Dynamos FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa on Thursday. A brace from Edu Bedia and a long-range goal from Brandon Fernandes sealed the points for the hosts after Bikramjit Singh and Lallianzuala Chhangte had given the Lions the lead twice. The Gaurs now move to the top of the table while Delhi remain stuck in ninth position.

At the post-match press conference, Goa head coach Sergio Lobera shared his thoughts on what proved to be a truly end-to-end encounter. “Sincerely I felt either of the teams could have got the victory today. I think it was a very open game, both teams were attacking each other as much as possible and trying to score as many goals. I thought it was a great spectacle for the fans. But when the game is so open ended, it is not particularly good for the coaches. But when two teams are going at it, at the decisive moment, one team is better than the other,” he said.

When asked about Edu Bedia’s performance on the night, Lobera admitted that he has always been happy with the Spaniard but pointed out that it is the effort of the collective that matters. “I don’t like to speak about players individually. You know Edu is a good player, he has been with us for the past two years. He is an important player and we have seen him do what he does. A player only shines when the team is doing the work with him,” the Spaniard remarked.

From Delhi’s end, head coach Josep Gombau spoke after the match about the positives he took, despite the unfavourable result. “I think we played very well. I think we played the game with a plan. I think we had a lot of chances to win the game. I think we had the best half. I’m satisfied with the players, satisfied with everybody. Just the result for me is a little bit unfair. It is true Goa is a strong opponent and has good quality. But today we deserved more,” he opined.

The Spaniard also rued the numerous chances his side squandered which ultimately proved to be the difference between the two sides. “We had a lot of chances. We score these chances and in one moment, the game can be 1-4, 1-3. But the difference is when they arrive, they have quality to score, to kill the game. But we had more chances than them. We had a lot of chances, we should have scored. I am satisfied with the team. We are playing, the result is not there but we are creating chances. And we come to Goa that is one of the strongest teams in Hero ISL and we played well. We had the ball and we created the chances,” Gombau added.
