NorthEast United FC have confirmed the retention of Zambian International Kondwani Mtonga for the second season of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL). The news comes as a welcome boost to the Highlanders who will be counting on the strong midfielder’s performances for the 2015 edition.Mtonga was a mainstay in the NorthEast United midfield having featured in 13 games for them. He also scored two goals in the bargain including a stunning header against Delhi Dynamos, and a cheeky yet brilliant finish against Mumbai City FC. Kondwani strutted around midfield with casual nonchalance winning back possession at will and setting off attacks for his side. The Zambian was the engine room behind the NorthEast United machine and was often the man his side looked to for inspiration. With an impressive 25 tackles to his name, the Highlanders will be hoping Mtonga continues to put in commanding shifts as he looks set to grace the ISL in its second edition. The John Abraham-owned team begins its campaign on the road against Kerala Blasters on October 6th.
