Indian Super League (ISL) side FC Goa secured their spot in the final of the Kalinga Super Cup 2025 with an emphatic 3-1 win over Mohun Bagan Super Giant at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday evening.

Brison Fernandes, Iker Guarrotxena, and Borja Herrera were on the scoresheet as the Gaurs overcame the Mariners' challenge.

FC Goa got off to a bright start and broke the deadlock in the 20th minute through Brison Fernandes. A cleverly worked set-piece routine on the right saw Borja Herrera and Boris Singh exchange passes before Borja delivered a precise curling cross into the box. Brison rose high and managed to get a touch that sent the ball past a rooted Dheeraj Singh into the far corner of the net.

MBSG responded swiftly. Just four minutes later, Ashique Kuruniyan beat Boris down the left flank and drilled in a low cross. FC Goa captain Odei Onaindia missed his interception, and Suhail Bhat, arriving unnoticed at the back, turned the ball past Hrithik Tiwari to make it 1-1.

After the break, FC Goa stepped up the tempo. In the 50th minute, Dejan Drazic raced into the box and was brought down in a 1v1 by a mistimed challenge from Dheeraj, winning a clear penalty.

Iker Guarrotxena stepped up and calmly slotted home, taking his tally to 11 goals in the 2024–25 season—and four in this tournament, making him the leading scorer of the Kalinga Super Cup 2025.

Just eight minutes later, Borja Herrera added FC Goa’s third in sensational fashion, scoring directly from a corner—an Olimpico. His delivery from the left side curled menacingly toward goal, and with Dheeraj completely misjudging its flight, the ball flew straight in.

The Gaurs controlled the game thereafter, stifling any hopes of an MBSG comeback and sealing a memorable victory that takes them one step closer to silverware and the lone slot available for next season's AFC Champions League 2.

The win further marked a special moment for Manolo Marquez, whose 66th match in charge of FC Goa now makes him the longest-serving head coach in the club’s history in terms of matches managed, overtaking the record previously held by Sergio Lobera.

The Men of Steel edge past the Islanders

Jamshedpur FC qualified for the Kalinga Super Cup final for the first time after beating Mumbai City FC 1-0 at the Kalinga Stadium on Wednesday.

Rei Tachikawa scored the solitary goal in the 87th minute for the Men of Steel to make it through to the final, where they will take on FC Goa on Saturday.

Jamil’s men generated a couple of chances from the outset, while the Islanders waited for their chances on counterattacks. In the 31st minute, TP Rehenesh demonstrated exceptional reflexes by successfully punching away Jordan Murray's header from inside the six-yard box.

Petr Kratky’s team, who had earlier registered two convincing wins in the tournament, found it difficult to find their rhythm. Except for a fine Lallianzuala Chhangte cross from the left that had the potential to fetch a goal, the Islanders couldn’t break through the Jamshedpur FC defence much.

Things didn’t improve in the second half, with the teams creating fewer chances. While Mumbai City FC continued to struggle up front, Jamshedpur FC were distinctly unlucky not to find the target at least twice after the hour mark.

Finally, Jamshedpur FC broke the deadlock in the 87th minute thanks to Tachikawa’s strike. Tachikawa picked up the ball outside the box and unleashed a left-footer that deflected off a defender before going in.

In the dying minutes of the game, Mumbai City FC tried their best, but Jamshedpur FC stood strong to secure the crucial victory.

FC Goa and Jamshedpur FC will now face off in the Kalinga Super Cup final on Saturday.
