NorthEast United FC forward Parthib Gogoi began his 2023-24 football season in some style as he scored a stunning hat-trick in NorthEast United FC’s 4-0 victory against Shillong Lajong FC in their Durand Cup 2023 opener.

This was the first hat-trick at senior level for the Assam player. The youngster had a breakthrough campaign in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 season, contributing three goals and an assist. Later on in the season, Gogoi played an important role in helping the Highlanders reach the semi-finals in the Super Cup. Having impressed in his first season with NorthEast United FC, Gogoi has made heads turn.

“It feels amazing to have a good start to my football career! The recent Durand Cup hat trick and the previous Hero ISL season have been incredible for my career. My love for the sport and the desire to constantly improve keeps me motivated and makes my mark," he said in an interview with Sportskeeda.

Gogoi was part of Ozone FC’s youth team before making his way to the Indian Arrows. He represented the Arrows for two seasons from 2020-22 in the I-League before joining NorthEast United FC. Gogoi said he received more exposure after playing in the ISL.

“The ISL and the I-League have their unique characteristics. The ISL offers a higher level of competition, with more international players and exposure, while the I-League focuses on promoting homegrown talent. Both experiences have contributed to my growth as a player by challenging me and helping me develop different skills," he added.

NorthEast United FC have witnessed a positive start to the season under new head coach Juan Pedro Benali. The Highlanders have been unbeaten in their opening two matches in the Durand Cup 2023 and have netted a total of six goals. Gogoi stated that the Spanish head coach’s philosophy has blended well with his playing style.

“Working with Coach Juan Pedro Benali at NorthEast United FC has been a great experience so far. His coaching style is focused on tactical awareness and technical skills, which aligns well with my playing style. I believe his approach will contribute to the team's success by bringing out the best in each player," he said.

Gogoi was one of the bright sparks for NorthEast United FC in the ISL last season, despite the Guwahati-based outfit enduring a disappointing campaign, finishing bottom of the standings. After a breakthrough campaign last season, Gogoi wishes to contribute more to the team and earn a call-up to the Indian football senior team.

“My immediate goals for the upcoming seasons are to continue performing well for my club and help them achieve success," said. “I want to score more goals and (provide) assists that will help my team to achieve (success). As for aspirations, I definitely dream of representing the national team in the future. It would be an honour to wear the Indian jersey and make my country proud," he concluded.
