Odisha FC succumbed to a 3-0 loss to FC Goa in the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2019-20 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa on Sunday. The away side were never really allowed to settle down as Ferran Corominas and Co. put three goals past the Odisha goal, with Hero ISL’s all-time top goalscorer scoring a brace.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Odisha head coach Josep Gombau refused to put blame on his players for the loss, “It was a very equal game until the last 10 minutes where Goa scored the two goals. Except for the score, I think it was a very equal game. But we have a lot of young players who still need to get experience. When you play against a top team like Goa and you make mistakes then you and bound to get punished. My players gave their 100%. The next game is important because it will be played at home.”

The Spaniard blamed the loss on the young age of his players, “It was mostly silly mistakes. There were a lot of poor errors but when you are playing with so many young players this happens. What is important is that you learn from them. We had a few chances before Goa scored the second. We should have converted the chances. It was all about the balance. It was an open game, we had the ball, we put in crosses.”

Speaking about conceding two goals to Corominas, the head coach said, “I think Coro is a top player. He has a lot of experience. As a coach, I cannot think about only one player. I have to think about the team as a whole and not a single player.”
