Jorge Costa: We should have created more chances

Mumbai City FC were left to rue their missed opportunities as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Hyderabad FC at the G.M.C. Balayogi Athletic Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday. The Islanders were in command for most of the match and led through a first half Mohamed Larbi goal. Hyderabad, however, denied them the win after converting a penalty of their own late into stoppage time.

In a post-match interview, Mumbai head coach Jorge Costa called on his players to stay focused and concentrate until the end of matches and said, “We should do better and we should think that the game is over only when the referee blows the final whistle. We should be more focused during the entire game.”

The Portuguese also admitted that the match didn’t go according to plan. “It was not the result that we were hoping for. It was not a wonderful game, but I do not remember one game of Hyderabad where they didn’t have chances to score. We should do better. Today we were not the team that I am used to,” he stated.

“There are things that I can control. There are things I cannot control. The things that I control is what my players do during the week, and in the games. This is my focus, to see the bad things that we did today and try to fix this in the coming four games,” he added.

Pointing out individual mistakes and a lack ruthlessness as a major reason behind the dropped points, Costa opined, “A lot of things went wrong. Individual mistakes, incapacity to play under what the game was asking of us. I do not know if this result will put us out of the top four race or not. It was such an important game, such an important three points. We should have done much better than what we did today.”

“We should have created more chances. It was very difficult for me at the end of the game. At half-time, I was not happy when we were leading 1-0. At the end, I am not happy,” he maintained.

The Mumbai City head coach concluded by saying, “The most important thing for me is the team. And the things that you must do for the team. When you are thinking about yourself, then you have a problem with me.”
