Jamshedpur FC, on Friday, announced that the club has secured the signing of defender Joyner Lourenco from Mumbai City FC. The 27-year-old put pen to paper on a two-year deal and will be donning the Jamshedpur colours in the upcoming Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2019-20 season.

Joyner had a stellar 2018-19 campaign for the Islanders and played 10 matches for Jorge Costa's side, raking up some impressive stats. Despite his game time being limited somewhat because of injuries, Joyner struck up a solid partnership with Lucian Goian at the heart of Mumbai's defence whenever he played and had a big role to play in Mumbai's run till the semi-finals last season.

Jamshedpur's failure to find a steady centre back partner for Tiri eventually cost them a spot in the top four last season and the Miners will certainly hope Joyner's inclusion will help fill that void.

The player spoke to the official Jamshedpur FC website and shared his thoughts about the move. "It’s a great feeling because not every player has the opportunity to join a huge club like this. I am looking forward to meeting up with my new teammates and I am very proud to officially become a Jamshedpur FC player. I really enjoyed the crowd presence at the Furnace last season when I came with Mumbai City and I am looking forward to playing in front of the home fans. I hope we can make our fans extremely proud and happy. Jam ke khelo Jamshedpur."

Jamshedpur CEO Mukul Choudhari added, "We are pleased to be able to bring in a player of proven quality who adds to our defensive options. Joyner is experienced at club level and possesses all the requisite attributes to thrive. He will add a lot of strength to our defense along with Tiri and we hope that partnership thrives throughout the season. We have been aware of him for some time and we are confident he will fit in well with the squad."
